Andrew W. Lo

Prior to QLS, Andrew W. Lo was Chairman and Chief Investment Strategist of AlphaSimplex Group. Andrew co-founded QLS Advisors in 2019 and currently serves as the Firm’s Chairman and Co-Chief Investment Strategist. He is also the Charles E. and Susan T. Harris Professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management, director of MIT’s Laboratory for Financial Engineering, and principal investigator at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. His research interests include new financial and business models for complex scientific innovation with applications to the life sciences and fusion energy, statistical methods and machine-learning models for predicting the probabilities of success of technological innovation, and portfolio optimization and risk management algorithms for investments involving low success rates, high payoffs when successful, and large capital outlays. He is a co-founder and director of BridgeBio Pharma and several other biotech companies, and an advisor to the Fusion and Clean Energy section of MIT’s Proto Ventures Studio. Andrew received his B.A. in economics from Yale University and his A.M. and Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
